Hearing the evening birds chirp away as I sit on my Mama’s porch. This is my happy place. Every evening I take off my makeup, pull up my hair and remove the stylish clothes for an oversized, stained sweatshirt and some comfy shorts. I do all this only to head to the porch to sit, think, journal, and pray.
I realized how my desire to be the perfect Christian girl almost robbed me of this serene place. See, I once believed my devotion or time with God had to be in the early morning hours of the day with a lot of study and prayer. And while that worked for my life during one season, this season is different.
My day-to-day load can be mentally exhausting, and God knows that outside, away from a laptop, cell phone distractions, or the responsibilities of ministry I can just be His daughter again. This awareness has blessed me with knowing even when I felt far from God, I'd still get outside and find Him again.
If you desire to grow closer to God, embrace the blissful moments you may normally overlook every day. Like in the morning before you start your day, or once you put the kids to bed and read your favorite book or the part of the day when you just sit on the couch and relax. No matter if it’s outside or inside, God will show up if you desire to get closer to him.
So, I don’t know where your happy place is, but as of the last ten months, my place to meet God has been in the evening on my Mama’s porch. I haven’t always been faithful with showing up, but every time I have, He has been there.
My hope is that you will seek God in a way you never have before. From washing the morning dishes to an evening sit with Him. May you experience the true love of God that is already present.
