When God Calls You Back to Prayer

He's not waiting for the perfect version of you. He's just waiting for you.

There was a time when I felt deeply disconnected. Going to church was a mundane routine. Reading the Bible felt empty. There seemed to be no purpose even in waking up. And if you’ve ever been there, you know how that kind of disconnection seeps into every area of your faith. It dulls your joy. It clouds your clarity. It makes even the smallest habits feel heavy and distant.
The emptiness and loneliness all become louder. And if it were up to shame, I would have stayed stuck there. Beating myself up for how I got to that place, wondering, How did I drift so far from God?
But I’ve learned along the way to recognize when God is resetting me. He gently calls me back to prayer. Not performative prayer. Not the check-it-off-the-list kind of prayer. But honest, still, intentional prayer. The kind of prayer that slows you down. The kind that reminds you of who you are and who He’s always been. Because prayer isn’t just about presenting our long list of needs (though He welcomes those, too). It’s really about being in tune with the heart of a Father who loves you.
It's conversation.
It’s communion.
It’s comfort.

It’s sitting with Him, not because you have to, but because your soul longs to. It’s offering what little time or energy you have, knowing that He can multiply it and meet you right there. And in that space, you remember His presence. You feel His peace. You receive His joy again.
So let me ask you: What is God calling you back to?
When you feel distant, the voice of shame will try to keep you there. It will tell you you’re too far gone, too inconsistent, too busy, too broken.
But God is bigger than all our reasons. God’s love is still here. Still waiting. Still open. Whether you’re returning to Him, discovering Him for the first time, or learning to break out of robotic routines, this is your invitation to come back. Slower. Softer. More authentic.
So here’s your gentle reminder:
You don’t have to come back with perfect words or polished prayers. You just have to come. Let prayer be the place where your soul rests. Where your pace slows. Where your connection with God is rebuilt, one honest moment at a time.
Start small.
Start quiet.
Start now.
He's not waiting for the perfect version of you. He's just waiting for you.
