Trading Signs and Stars for the Savior's Voice

I grew up knowing who God is. There was always prayer before bed and meals. My grandma was always reading her Bible. There was always church on Sundays, with Gospel music playing on the ride there. God was always in the atmosphere. So although He wasn’t a stranger to me, He also wasn’t personal to me at that time.
It wasn’t until I got to college that I started seeking a personal relationship with God. I was watching sermons, reading the Bible, and I even tried journaling a few times. One of the biggest things I struggled with was hearing/knowing God’s voice. “The way God speaks to you is through His word” is something that didn’t make sense to me. I couldn’t see how the word would relate to specific issues in my life.

So instead, I turned to horoscope and tarot videos on YouTube. I wanted quick and tangible answers, and I didn’t want to read between the lines of the Bible. If I were struggling in an area, I would just search what the horoscope said for reassurance. I would tune in at the start of every month so that I could know what to expect, thinking that if I was prepared, then I wouldn’t be caught off guard if something went wrong.
I’m not sure when the shift happened, but there was a point when I stopped going to those videos for answers. The truth was that those horoscope and tarot videos only provided a false sense of hope. What I was searching for was something to put my faith in, and the answer was and is God. He is always speaking, even in situations where it’s hard to hear Him. All I needed to do was spend more time with Him. I decided to turn to Him with my problems and trust that once I prayed, He had it in His hands.
Maybe you’re like me, and it’s hard for you to hear God speak. Maybe you need to make a decision, and you aren’t sure which path is the right one. Or maybe you’re in a rough spot and you need reassurance that everything is going to be okay. Trust me when I say, God is the answer. It’s true when they say the more you read the Word and spend time with God, the more you can hear Him speak. No matter the situation, you can put your faith in God. I know it’s not always easy, but it is always worth it!
Scripture
“All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, so that the servant of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work.”
