Shift Your Year-End Focus

The end of the year naturally invites reflection, adjustment, and fresh goal setting as we prepare for what’s ahead. But during this process, we often fixate on what went wrong or what didn’t happen,

hoping that analyzing our disappointments will make next year better.
But to truly step into a better year, you may need to shift your year-end focus.
Instead of replaying your mistakes, your shortcomings, what you lacked, or what you failed to accomplish… pause and ask yourself one simple, transformative question:
What did I learn?

Learning isn’t limited to classrooms—it’s birthed through movement, action, and life itself. We gain clarity by trying, stretching, and doing, even when things don’t unfold the way we expected. Take a moment to acknowledge what you gained. There are lessons tucked into everyday life, even inside unfinished goals and unexpected detours.
You may not have finished the book, but did you discover a rhythm that makes you more
productive? You may have stepped away from school—but did you uncover your true passion? You may have been hurt by the church, but did your personal relationship with God grow stronger?
Life is already challenging. Don’t make it heavier with unnecessary self-criticism. You learned this year in a way only

you could. You gained something valuable—wisdom, resilience, insight—that is preparing you for the season ahead.
Be proud of that. Trust that God has been strengthening, shaping, and equipping you for what’s next.
Don’t rush past the season you’re in. Embrace it. Trust that you are being crafted for the next level. Give yourself grace, and know this: you are enough right now, and you already carry everything you need for where God is leading you.
Weekly Scripture
“For this reason I remind you to fan into flame the gift of God, which is in you through the laying on of my hands”
2 Timothy 1:6
