Buzzer-Beater God

When it looks like time is up, that’s when He shows up!

From 2021 to 2023, I was in a cycle of having temp/seasonal jobs and being unemployed. By the time 2024 came around, I was over it and needed stability. I decided to create a prayer board for 2024, and made sure to include a “stable job with a fun environment” on the board. I started the year working two jobs. One had unstable hours, and one was a temp job that lasted for two months. When the temp job ended, the other job with unstable hours also ended up closing for good. So now, I was unemployed, scrolling on Indeed like it was my full-time job. After weeks of hunting and submitting applications, I started to get burnt out and discouraged.

It wasn’t until October that I finally got hired at a job. I initially applied with a “why not” mindset, thinking it would be a dead end like the others. I was also a little suspicious of how quick the whole process was and braced myself for any red flags that would pop up once I started working. Fast forward to a month later, and I was looking at my prayer board. I realized that the job I had checked all of the boxes that I prayed for. I had stable hours, the environment was fun, and the people I worked with were likable.

I realized that I was so focused on keeping my guard up in case something went wrong that I couldn’t even see when God was answering my prayer. On top of that, He came through right on time. Although I was unemployed for a few months after my two jobs ended, I was still receiving monthly income from child support. However, the last child support payment was in September, and I didn’t know what I was going to do moving forward. God already had all of that figured out when He presented the opportunity to me in October. Looking back, I see that God had a plan this whole time.

So, maybe you are also in a situation where it looks like time is running out. Maybe it involves a job, finances, and bills like mine, or maybe you’re in a different circumstance where you need to see God move. I know we hear it all of the time, but His timing is not our timing. When it looks like time is up, that’s when He shows up. He’s a buzzer-beater God! Try to keep that in mind for these last 3 months of the year. Also, don’t forget to revisit your vision or prayer boards. You may be living in the middle of an answered prayer that you forgot about. And if there are still things on there that haven’t happened yet, pray over them and have faith that God can still move. Trust that He will show up for you!

Weekly Scripture

This vision is for a future time. It describes the end, and it will be fulfilled. If it seems slow in coming, wait patiently, for it will surely take place. It will not be delayed.

Habakkuk 2:3
