Being Thankful Because He Cares

Thankfulness isn’t just something we feel when life is smooth, it’s a posture of the heart.

I remember walking through a season when the Lord was teaching me how to truly rest in Him. During that time, I began to experience attacks in the night—heavy, demonic presences would enter my room in an attempt to torment me. But every single time, it wouldn’t last long, because the Spirit of the Lord would send His angel to my rescue.

At first, I didn’t understand why this was happening. I didn’t like it (let’s be honest, who actually enjoys hard seasons?). But then, the Lord gave me a dream. In that dream, He showed me that I was in a training period. He was teaching me how to walk in faith and trust Him on a deeper level.

Even still, my heart wrestled. Then one day, He gave me a scripture that completely shifted everything for me:

“Casting all your care upon Him; for He careth for you.” — 1 Peter 5:7

The Lord was letting me know that I didn’t have to fear, even in the midnight hours, because He cared for me. I could cast it on Him. And once I truly surrendered and handed it over to Him, everything changed. I didn’t have another restless night. Peace filled my room. I could finally sleep knowing I didn’t have to be afraid of what might come my way.

And right there, in the middle of that difficult season, I found something powerful. I could be thankful. I could rejoice. Not because the attacks felt good, but because I knew my Father cared for me. I could endure and rest humbly under His mighty hand, because His love for me was greater than anything against me.

Maybe you’re in a season right now that feels heavy. Maybe you’re planning, setting goals, or walking into the unknown, but your heart feels weighed down by stress, worry, or fear. I want to encourage you: be thankful. Be thankful, not because everything feels perfect, but because the Creator of heaven and earth cares about you so personally, so intimately, that you never have to carry your burdens alone.

Thankfulness isn’t just something we feel when life is smooth; it’s a posture of the heart. When we understand how deeply God cares for us, it shifts our perspective. Instead of being consumed by anxiety, we can rejoice. Instead of holding onto stress, we can release it and give thanks.

When we actually obey the Word and cast our cares on Him, something happens. We exchange our burdens for His peace. Philippians 4:6-7 tells us:

"Being thankful doesn’t mean we pretend hardships don’t exist. It means we choose to focus on the One who carries us through them. A thankful heart says, “I don’t have to figure it all out. My Father already has it in His hands.”

So today, pause and think about what’s weighing on you. Write it down, pray it out, and then cast it onto the Lord. And as you do, let thanksgiving rise, not because it’s all perfect, but because He is perfect and He cares for you.
